What is Acro Yoga?
Acro Yoga combines the physical capabilities of yoga and acrobatics and is a partner practice designed to build trust, strength and connection while feeling like a dance. What is needed?
If you have the people and maybe a yoga mat you are good to go! But be aware, learning Acro Yoga requires strength training, flexibility and technique training.
An "acro jam" refers to a time & place to practice acro with others! So it is not a formal course, but you will certainly learn a lot by practicing, spotting, and watching.
It's a good idea to wear comfortable clothes which allow for movement, bring water, a mat, & a towel for sweat and/or back suppprt.
Jams typically last about 2 hours, but feel free to come and go when you please!
What else is there?
Aside from its physical attributes, Acro Yoga involves a lot of coordination, trust and communication. Exploring the connection between you and your partner while you trust them to gently elevate you and bring you back down is a powerful experience. Learning about yourself and your partner; communications is key here and encourages to speak honest to each other.
How does Acro Yoga work?
Acro Yoga has basically 3 roles. The base, the flyer and the spotter.
The base is the base of each figures and supports the flyer. This is mostly done, by laying on the ground, but there are also a lot of standing exercises.
The flyer is elevated by the base and performs dynamic positions that require balance and core strength.
The spotter stand by securing the flyer and the base and overwatches the positions and gives recommendations. With each acrobatics, training makes perfect and that also includes failure, so the spooter stand by and helps just in case.
